Preschool update at 6 weeks.

Well, we had a fun night tonight at preschool, it was called "Back to School" and the students were present us parents with a few of their lessons. It was so great to see what they are doing!

Some of the lessons they presented were the Spindle Box (where they counted out spindles and put them in the appropriate numbered box - that started with "0" and ended with "9". They both did great, though they got really distracted with all the other parents there so it took a while!

Another great one was the Sandpaper Letter Sounds box. This box had a each letter on a wooden card, the letters were in 'sandpaper' so that they could be traced with their dominant pointer finger. A really neat way for them to learn how to start to write the letters before they start with pencils. for each letter they were to say the letter sound. Davis knows a lot more letters than we realized! Guess we need to do the letter puzzles at home a bit more to see what they actually know!

The last one that they did was the Color Box II, it basically was a wooden color matching set. They both did great, telling us what the color was and matching up them up in pairs.

One of the best things that I appreciate is that each of the lessons that they do is supposed to be done in an orderly manner, it's very nice to have someone else trying to teach them to do things a certain way. They really pick up on the the life skills, though I can't wait to see even how much better they are doing in a few more months!!

Ok, one funny story I heard from the teachers tonight!!!

Evidently a few weeks ago Jessa had gone into the bathroom to use the potty... well, when she finished she yelled "DAAAAVVVIIIIS! Come in here and flush the toilet!" hahaha!!! Then she yelled for him to turn the water on for her to wash her hands!! Oh boy... she's not quite that demanding at home... well not all the time anyway! The teacher came out with this story when Jessa was supposed to be doing something that Davis hadn't shown me yet, and she was getting distracted and wanted to do what Davis was doing instead. I've been wondering how they were doing in school being in the same class room. Well, pretty much the same as at home, and we really need to work on Jessa's "demands"!! It's interesting how Jessa is so demanding and able to at a young age "direct" all of us (her subjects!) to do her bidding, yet she actually likes to do what Davis does, and doesn't really think for herself. The teacher also mentioned that they are actually separating them during the various group classtime. They go to different circle times, and sit at different lunch tables etc. I guess for now it's the best of both worlds, they can see each other during the day, yet are able to learn to work independently. I would love to be able to keep them together in classrooms, but really that's just so that it's easier on ME! Less teachers to learn and hopefully the same homework etc. But when it comes time to make the decision for either next year or Kindergarten, we'll make the decision based on what they really need, and if we need to separate then we'll do that.

Anyway, had to share an update! They've been in school almost six weeks, and they love it, so that's great! We are really enjoying everything that they are learning and pleased with the school and teachers!
